College admissions can be a befuddling process, be it figuring out what stream to choose or which colleges to apply to. At College Counselling Coach, we ensure that you get personalized guidance from an experienced counsellor so that you have absolute clarity on your interest and aptitude. With our annual development plan, you can then focus single-mindedly on academics and stacking up participation in activities of your interest to build a strong profile. At College Counselling Coach, we follow a three-stage end-to-end life cycle approach that is powered by using our ed-tech platform.

What We Offer

Building Your Profile

The annual development plan has an entire spectrum of activities for you to participate in – based on your areas of interest – so that by the end of the year you have built a profile that shows your consistent application in a focused direction.

Identifying Right Colleges

We help you identify the best colleges for a stream of your choice, which are not only known for their competency in delivering that program but also those that complement your acumen, and work as an ideal launchpad to further your career aspirations.

Submitting Applications

We help you write and refine your essay for different colleges and guide you to collate elements of your profile – essays, letters of recommendation, resume, projects and internship so that as a whole, it comes across as a coherent and meaningful application.

Stages of a Student Journey

1. Discover and Assess

A) Psychometric Test

You will appear for a psychometric test, which is a set of multiple choice questions aimed at exploring your interests and motivation, and also assessing how your aptitude is best suited for certain academic subjects. The test is objective, unbiased and is a strong indicator of academic acumen and interest. The findings of this test will help you gain a clear understanding of your abilities and also your interests with respect to specific academic subjects.

B) Interview with parent and student

We have a detailed discussion with you and your parents on what excites you, both within and outside academics. This would cover the entire aspect of what your career goals are; what subjects you are passionate about; what your aspirations are, not just for college but after college as well. The findings of both the test and the interview will help you narrow your choices to subjects that are in line with your aspirations.

C) Assign A Counsellor

You are assigned a counsellor who is most experienced in the field of study that you want to pursue and who can guide you most effectively towards your goals. The counsellor will create the annual plan of activities for you, handhold you as you pursue the plan, track your performance throughout the year and offer timely intervention and feedback. Apart from one-on-one meetings each month, counsellors will be continually available on mail and phone for support and guidance.

2. Build Academics and Profile

A) Baseline Annual development plan

A unique, personalised plan is developed on the basis of the psychometric test and interview. This includes working on assignments which include projects, internships and paper presentations. Training workshops, leadership talks and academic counselling will also be part of the plan. This entire plan is mapped on our ed-tech platform where progress, submissions, counselling sessions, intervention and feedback are tracked on monthly and quarterly intervals.

B) Execute on action items

The annual development plan will be monitored with assiduity by the counsellor. The student will be apprised of his tasks and projects for the month and be guided in detail on how to accomplish those tasks and submit them within specific timelines. On submission of completed assignments the counsellor will give feedback, suggest improvements and ensure that they are incorporated by the student in his work.

C) Counselling and reviews

At the end of each month, the counsellor shall apprise the student and parent of the student’s progress vis-a-vis the targets of the annual development plan. They will be brought abreast with the student’s performance and how it is keeping pace with the plan created for him. Academic advice on which subjects need more application or which activity should be pursued more aggressively to make a profile seem more wholesome will be rendered from time to time, during the review as also during the course of the year.

3. Apply for College

A) Baseline Colleges and Programs

Based on how a student has worked in different subjects and on extra-curriculars with the aim of applying for certain programs and colleges, the counsellor identifies the programs and a list of thirty colleges that the student should apply for. These colleges would be a combination of reach colleges – those that are top Ivy League schools and also safe colleges – where chances of acceptance for the student are fairly high. A customised list of such colleges is created for each student so that he has a diverse range of colleges to apply to, where his interests in certain academic subjects will be best served.

B) Create A Resource Kit

A college application is a stack of different documents beyond the academic results and extracurricular achievements. It includes projects you have undertaken, workshops you have attended, the essay that your college asks you to write, letters of recommendation from your school teachers and instructors, your resume, any published papers, your social media profile and records of your volunteering and social service. We help you write and refine your essay for different colleges and guide you to collate elements of your profile – such as essays, letters of recommendation, resume, projects and internship – so that as a whole, it comes across as a coherent and meaningful application.

C) Submit Applications

The colleges that you apply for are unique to you. While the requirements of a college application will be similar for most colleges, they will not essentially be the same. The timelines for submitting the applications will vary for different colleges, the essays will vary, there may or may not be an interview, some may offer financial aid and we will keep track of all of this. With our ed-tech platform, we will ensure that you organise yourself well with different folders for different colleges as per the documents asked for and keep track of deadlines for application submission. We will check and recheck your application to ensure that it fulfils all criteria for it to be complete and is submitted well in time before the due date.
